The Others are a collective of ascended beings.

Overview

The Others have two rules: Do not interfere with the affairs of the lower beings and do not accelerate the natural ascension process of those beneath. Sometimes the Others will vote on whether or not to ascend a lower being to join them. (SG1: "Abyss", "Ascension", "Threads")

History

After Chaya Sar used her ascended powers to destroy the Wraith who were attacking Proculis, the Others punished her by forcing her to remain on Proculis and only protect the people there while the Wraith continued to attack the rest of the galaxy. When Anubis managed to ascend, the Others did not want him among them so they tried to send him back, but could only partially send him back. As punishment for her actions, the Others allowed Anubis to use any information or technology he would have otherwise found as a normal Goa'uld and let him wreck havoc on the Milky Way. After Orlin had communicated knowledge about building a weapon to the Velonans and they used that knowledge to plan to conquer other worlds, the Others destroyed the people and forced Orlin to remain behind on the planet. Later when SG-16 was attempting to power up the weapon, the Others were planning to destroy them but Orlin stopped them. When Orlin was shot in the process, the Others allowed him to ascend again. (ATL: "Sanctuary", SG1: "Ascension")

The Others allowed Oma Desala to continue her work, despite what she was doing and Oma stopped Daniel Jackson from destroying Anubis so as to not incur the wrath of the Others. The Others watched Oma when she offered Daniel ascension again and paid no attention to Daniel trying to talk to them. After Oma engaged Anubis in eternal combat, the Others sent Daniel back to mortal form. The Others may have allowed Orlin to retake human form and retain his memories so he could warn Stargate Command about the threat that the Ori posed. The Others allowed Ganos Lal to give the addresses of Castiana and Sahal to Daniel Jackson but when she attempted to tell him exactly where to find Merlin's weapon, they stepped in and pulled her away. The Others allowed Daniel, who had been turned into a Prior, to build Merlin's weapon and for it to be sent to the Ori galaxy. They did not interfere when Ganos Lal communicated information about the Ark of Truth to Daniel and healed Teal'c of a mortal injury. (SG1: "Full Circle", "Threads", "The Fourth Horseman, Part 1", "The Pegasus Project", "The Shroud", Stargate: The Ark of Truth)
